Ellen is an art historian and independent curator, with degrees from Harvard (BA, 1992) and New York University (MA, PhD, 2007).  She is currently Associate Professor of Art History at Wheaton College, Massachusetts, where she teaches courses in modern and contemporary art.  Prior to coming to Wheaton, she lived in Paris for a decade.  While teaching and writing, she also founded Paris Muse in 2002, and served as its first director.  She is the author of Matisse’s Sculpture: The Pinup and the Primitive (Yale University Press, 2014), and was co-curator of Matisse in the Studio (Boston MFA, and Royal Academy, London, 2017).  She divides her time between Providence, RI and Paris.
