Tour Description
Conceived in 1969 by President Pompidou to bring art and culture to the "man in the street," the Centre Pompidou is home to the Musée National d'Art Moderne, one of the most comprehensive collections of 20th-century modern European art in the world.
The Pompidou Center’s National Museum of Modern Art has an unparalleled collection of 20th-century paintings and sculptures. This tour takes advantage of the breadth of this stunning collection by studying the main avant-garde movements from 1900-1945: Fauvism, Cubism, Dada, and Surrealism. What were the central ideas behind each of these innovative approaches? We explore this question by focusing on the pioneers of each “ism”: Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Duchamp, Dalí, and Miró. Through close examination of selected masterpieces, we make sense of a diverse, seemingly chaotic, but always fascinating period in the history of modern art.
Your guide will bring your timed and dated tickets, and together you’ll use a priority access line to enter the museum. There will be a wait for the required security screening, however.

Real Conversation at the Pompidou
My tour of the Pompidou with Paris Muse was a highlight of my recent trip to Paris. For anyone who wants an alternative to being herded around in a tour group, this is it. The tour was a wonderful hour and a half conversation where the guide started with what I said interested me and built on what I already knew. She connected it with what we were seeing in a way that made me feel I actually knew something about modern art which–for me–is no mean achievement.

My most favourite activity when in Paris
Visiting museums is right at the top of my "to-do" list when in Paris. However, let's admit it, these visits can be so dispiriting at times as there is so much to absorb. However, with Paris Muse visits become an absolute pleasure. I have used Paris Muse three times now. Ellen (Pompidou tour), Holly (Louvre tour) and Inge (Orangerie tour) were delightfully informative guides and explained the various art pieces so clearly that I was captivated throughout. The personal attention and wealth of information provided makes a tour worth every Euro.
