Matthieu Creson
"As a guide working in Paris, I realize how lucky I am. Leading tours in the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay is a unique opportunity to share with visitors some of the essential contributions of past civilizations, on which we continue to depend today. Visiting a museum is a journey through time and space. It’s also an opportunity to marvel at the beauty of art, and to connect its qualities to the ideas and values of the people who made it. For me, visiting a museum is a very personal experience. Just looking closely at a work of art can teach us a great deal about it. But placing the work in its historical context, and understanding what function the object was intended to fulfill, allows us to go beyond our aesthetic emotions."
One of my favorite places is the Île Saint-Louis, a haven of peace amidst the hustle
and bustle of Parisian life.
Born in Philadelphia, Matthieu is both French and American. With a Franco-American father and French mother, he grew up and studied in France, but has kept his strong ties with American culture. After graduating from the French business school EDHEC, he earned Master's degrees in both Philosophy and Literature. He also holds a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. In 2017- 2018, he studied at the German Center for Art History in Paris. Since 2016, he has worked as a tour guide for the Réunion des Musées Nationaux. In addition to art, gastronomy, and intellectual history, he is especially interested in the exchanges between Enlightenment French philosophers and the American founding fathers.
