Tour Description
Discover some of the Louvre’s most beautiful paintings, hanging in quiet galleries beyond the well-trod tourist routes. Together we’ll examine masterpieces that many miss, including works by van Eyck, Rembrandt, Rubens, and Vermeer. While other visitors are fighting the crowds, we’ll calmly explore the “hidden” gems in the Dutch, Flemish, and German galleries, to give you a better understanding of Northern European art from the 15th to 18th centuries. Our focused, painting-by-painting approach will allow you to look closely at each of these stunning works, to discuss what they meant to their original viewers. How do we read the detailed symbols of these visual stories? What can they tell us about this fascinating period in history? The Louvre’s unparalleled collection of Northern European paintings is a visual feast, to be enjoyed whether this is your 1st or 21st visit to Paris.
Your guide will bring your timed and dated tickets, and together you’ll use a priority access line to enter the museum. There will be a wait for the required security screening, however.
Our cancellation and change policies are here.
Tour Teaser: Go in-depth with Vermeer’s Lacemaker, one of the Louvre’s “hidden” gems.
Accessibility
Our guides are trained to lead wheelchair-accessible tours that use the Louvre’s many ramps and elevators.
We can assist you in borrowing a free wheelchair on site, with your ID. We recommend this to visitors with limited mobility, since navigating the Louvre can be physically demanding. Please specify your mobility needs when booking online.
Children in strollers are welcome at the Louvre. Strollers larger than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm when folded cannot be checked during your visit. Frontal baby carriers and slings are allowed, but back carriers with metal frames are not.
Reviews
I’ll never look at a painting the same way again!
My teen and I took the “The Louvre’s Hidden Masterpieces” tour. Our guide Pamela expertly explained what we were seeing – I’ll never look at a painting the same way again! We both found the tour to be extremely informative. Pamela was so easy to talk to, and she answered all our questions. I highly recommend the company, and Pamela as a guide.

Who Knew Learning Could Be So Much Fun?
Leigh and I had a marvelous—and very enlightening—time with Carrie. She was an absolute delight and made our experience to the Louvre so much more fun and meaningful than it would have been without her. It has definitely been the highlight of our trip. Who knew that learning could be so much fun?
Thanks again,
Lori Samuels
